This guide explains how to source candidates in Dover and how each method works from start to finish.
Creating and managing outreach campaigns
Before sourcing candidates, you must select an active outreach campaign. Campaigns define who the email is sent from, the email content, and any follow-ups.
In the Sourcing tab, you can use a default campaign or create your own.
Use an existing outreach campaign
Go to the Sourcing tab
Click an existing campaign to open it
Edit campaign details
In the Edit tab, you can update:
Campaign name
Email subject
Email body
You can also manage follow-up emails:
Toggle follow-up emails on or off
Set when follow-ups are sent if there is no reply
Click +New Followup to add additional follow-ups
Additional actions:
Click Duplicate to copy a campaign
Click Delete to remove a campaign
Preview emails
Go to the Preview tab to see what candidates will receive
When finished, click Save.
Create a new outreach campaign
In the Sourcing tab, click +Campaign
Enter a campaign name
Choose who the outreach email is sent from:
Hiring manager
Someone else on my team
Select a team member from the dropdown
The selected sender must have authorized their email in Dover. Email authorization can be completed here:
https://app.dover.com/settings/account/email-connection
Click Create
Click the new campaign to edit it
Configure the subject, email body, and follow-ups (same steps as editing an existing campaign)
Click Save
Activate an outreach campaign
To use a campaign for sourcing, it must be active.
Toggle the campaign On to activate it
Each campaign tracks:
How long the campaign has been active
Total number of contacted candidates
Email open rate
Only active campaigns can be used when sourcing candidates.
Sourcing candidates
There are 3 ways to source candidates in Dover.
Method 1: Source an individual candidate
Use this option when sourcing one candidate at a time.
Go to the Sourcing tab
Choose an active email outreach campaign
Click Source candidate
Select Single candidate
Enter the required information:
First name (required)
Last name (required)
Email address
If you don’t have an email, add the candidate’s LinkedIn URL and Dover will attempt to find one
Click Next to preview the outreach message
Make any edits if needed and click Send
The candidate will be added as a New Lead in the Candidates tab and be queued to receive the email outreach sequence.
Method 2: Source multiple candidates (bulk upload)
Use this option to source multiple candidates at once using a CSV file.
Go to the Sourcing tab
Choose an email outreach campaign
Click Source candidate
Select Multiple candidates
Drag and drop your completed CSV file
Dover will parse the file to check for required information
If errors are found, fix them and re-upload the file
Preview the candidate information and click Upload Candidates
CSV format requirements
Your CSV must follow this column order:
First Name
Last Name
Email Address
LinkedIn URL (optional)
All candidates will be added as New Leads in the Candidates tab.
Note: Bulk sourcing may take some time to complete, depending on file size.
Method 3: Source candidates using the Dover Chrome extension
Use the Chrome extension to source candidates directly from LinkedIn.
How to source using the Dover sourcing extension
Open Chrome and navigate to a candidate’s LinkedIn profile
Click the Dover Chrome extension
Click More under the candidate profile
Click Save to PDF
Select a Job and Email Campaign from the dropdown menus
Review and customize the outreach email
Click Send Outreach
The candidate is sourced and added as a New Lead in the Candidates tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do sourced candidates appear?
All sourced candidates are added to the Candidates tab as New Leads.
What happens if I don’t have a candidate’s email address?
If you provide a LinkedIn URL, Dover will attempt to find an email address automatically. If it cannot find one, then the outreach sequence cannot be sent.
Can I edit the outreach message before sending?
Yes. You can preview and customize the message before sending for single candidate sourcing methods. For bulk sourcing, the outreach message cannot be edited.
Why is my bulk upload taking time?
Bulk uploads may take longer depending on the number of candidates and email enrichment required.
Do I need the Chrome extension to source candidates?
No. The Chrome extension is optional, but it allows you to source candidates directly from LinkedIn more quickly.
